Svensk Form presents “Swedish Love Stories” in Milan 12-17 april 2011

For the third consecutive year Svensk Form is organising the Swedish Love Stories exhibition during Milan’s Design Festival at the prestigious Superstudio Píu in the middle of Zona Tortona. Last year the focus was on Dalarna; this time we shine some light on Västra Götaland on an even larger and more ambitious scale.

Superstudio Píu is no ordinary show space, standing in a disused factory location in central Milan, called the Temporary New Museum. This year looks set to smash last years attendance numbers – which stood at over 120,000 visitors, including 3000 journalists, despite taking place under the imposing ash cloud.

Innovative industrial design agency No Picnic has taken charge of interpreting this year’s ongoing Swedish Love Stories theme. A large floating barn and topographical forms reference classic Swedish materials and the romance of our natural environment. Textiles, wood, glass and ceramics can be found throughout the exhibition, especially in the showcase of Västra Götaland. The aim is to give context to contemporary Swedish design and convey narratives about the country, the chosen region and the modern Swedish lifestyle. For the individual exhibitors this vibrant atmosphere gives them the chance to build new contacts, increase awareness while developing new export markets and customer bases.

”Come and sit in at the kitchen table in the barn, rest on one of the outcrops in our stylised archipelago or up on the balcony on recycled textile furniture. The theme of Swedish Love Stories is open to several interpretations; the love of materials, places, the people behind the products and perhaps even the creation process as a whole.

Being in the midst of the vibrant design week in Milan, is a must so that Swedish design can meet the world,” says Ewa Kumlin, MD, Svensk Form.

The development of this initiative has been supported by various partners including Region Västra Götaland, VisitSweden, and The Council for the Promotion of Sweden, NSU. Special thanks to No Picnic AB and advertising agency IK Stockholm for their extraordinary efforts.

Otra vez nos sorprende con uno de sus nuevos proyectos, antes fué con la "Corner Lamp"(ver aquí) después fué con Battery Pack de Red Bull (Ver aquí) y ahora hoy, está en la exposición en el MOMA de San Francisco,USA, en una exposición que se llama ScandinavianToday, o sea, lo mejorcito de Escandinavia de hoy. Allí está nuestro amigo. "Me parece a toda raja haber llegado a esa instancia, el MoMa! imáginate¡¡ dice Roberto.

Salió elegida en la Revista GQ de Estados Unidos como el mejor producto para el hogar.

GQ's Best Stuff '06 list is out, and among our picks for your home is Roberto Cárdenas's lovely Corner Lamp.

The premise of the lamp is so rational (it's essentially a traditional floor lamp, quartered) that I expected Cárdenas to have a certain Swedish practicality to him. After we met, though, I realized that Cárdenas—a painter, poet, and former high school teacher—is all heart. "If I have to choose between beauty and function, I will always choose beauty," he told me.

It's often the simplest designs that are the hardest to pull off (there is nothing to distract your eye, so the details must be perfect). In this case, it took a great deal of trial and error to manufacture the lampshade's unique frame and upholster it so the seams would be unobtrusive.

What makes the design resonate for me is that it manages to be unquestionably novel, while at the same time staying rooted in the familiar. And knowing how much attention went into creating such a seemingly simple object only makes me appreciate it more.

Fue invitado por él y está aquí con esta lampara ( cuya foto es la que ilustra esta nota).

Presentación:

CLIP LAMP.

Una herramienta sin un valor, sin una intención, no es absolutamente nada.

Con un martillo se puede construir o destruir, o simplemente no hacer nada con él.

Esta lámpara es una herramienta que apela al comportamiento, a una actitud.

Su función invita al ahorro y a la acción estética.

Invita al ahorro a través de la reutilización del papel.

De acuerdo al gusto o necesidad de cada cual; fotografías, cuentas, recetas de cocinas y diversos papeles pueden ser parte de esta lámpara.

En este acto de composición hay a la vez una acción estética y también ética hacia el medio ambiente.

Mi posición es ciertamente una posición artística, afirmada principalmente en el encuentro de las disciplinas.

Me seduce la tentativa de cristalizar el saber técnico, el arte y el diseño, para generar objetos bellos, útiles o inútiles.

Me gusta generar cambios para introducir algo nuevo, a la manera del ready-made. Es la idea de lo humano, basado en lo poético, la idea de embellecer lo cotidiano y de aliviarlo un poco.

No es acaso una necesidad auténtica la búsqueda de la belleza? y que cuando se encuentra produce una satisfacción sensorial y también espiritual, no menos necesaria e importante que los otras necesidades “reales”?

Al respecto, quiero señalar mi interés en el acto poético y en la palabra como actos de creación, que bien podrían ser el fundamento del origen de una obra.

Toda composición enraizada en una necesidad, física o espiritual, aunque salga de la nada, es visual y moralmente justificable.

El sentido común, cuando es el planteamiento riguroso de la función, produce necesariamente resultados bellos.

Estamos aquí frente a una dimensión del misterio original del acto creativo, posiblemente su germen, es por esto que pienso que en su origen una obra, está más conectada a una dimensión de lo espiritual que a lo meramente físico.

Esta lámpara nace después de haber hecho muchos dibujos para este evento y de no poder encontrar ninguna idea que me satisfaga.

Muchos papeles en mi mesa de trabajo. Mucho por botar.

Por qué entonces; no diseñar una lámpara para ellos, en vez de arrojarlos al papelero?
